Working primarily with encaustic medium on cradled wood panels and salvaged wood pieces, I am captivated by the warmth, movement, texture, and scent of the beeswax. A repetitive, meditative process has been central to my creative practice. My process combines the free flow formation of encaustic monotypes, along with the carefully planned and repetitive assembly of paper relief. Water is a recurring theme in my work, often acting as a central source of inspiration and imagery. The utilization of color, texture, light, and layers represents my love and fascination with the elements of costal California beaches: waves, sunlight, sea smoke, sea foam, tide pools, and fog. Flowing layers of encaustic medium, bees wax, and pigments communicate what is seen, what is veiled, the unseen, the imagined, and that which lies beneath. Additionally, the deconstruction of monotype paper swatches assembled into relief works represents fragmented and imprecise memories. My desire is to offer a gentle suggestion to the viewer, giving them an opportunity to connect with the pieces on their own terms.
